Equestrian has three disciplines - dressage, eventing, jumping. The sport was featured in the Olympic programme in the 1900 Games in Paris, with jumping events, but was then withdrawn until the 1912 Games in Stockholm. Since then, equestrian has been a regular program in the Olympic Games. Until 1951, only commissioned military officers or "gentlemen" can compete in the event but the rule was abolished in time for the Helsinki Games in 1952, where women was also able to compete with men in the mixed events. Of the three disciplines, eventing is the most demanding as it combines not only jumping and dressage but also a long cross-country course, on mixed terrain.
