Information

Badminton made its debut at the Olympic Games as a demonstration sport at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. The sport was officially included on the Olympic programme at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, with men's and women's singles and doubles events. The mixed doubles event was introduced in 1996 in Atlanta. Indonesia's badminton great Rudy Hartono, Christian Hadinata and Ade Chandra competed in Munich while Susi Susanti became the first Indonesian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal when Indonesia dominated the badminton events with two gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal.
