Indonesian Olympic News Update 24 Jul 2021
Vidya Rafika’s debut in the 10m air rifle was a valuable experience for the 20-year old shooter. She will next compete in the 50m air rifle 3 positions next Saturday (31/7).
Fika scored 622 points from six rounds, placing her 35th in the standings. Only the top eight shooters progressed to the final.
“I did well in the qualification events. But this is only my first Olympics, and I’m still learning valuable experiences. Everything starts from zero, and this is also only my first event at this Olympics,” said Fika.
Separately, coach Ebrahim Inanloy (Iran) explained that the competition in 50m rifle 3 positions will be fierce. But he believes her protege can be a future star. He believes with more experience in big events such as the Asian Games and World Cup, Fika will be even better.
‘The pressure is high in the Olympics. Fika is facing shooters with plenty of experience and is also a world champion. Other than her technique, she also needs mental strength. In shooting, psychology plays a big part,” adds Inanloy.
PB Perbakin Secretary-General Firtian Judiswandinata feels Fika can improve her mental strength, concentration, accuracy, and decision making. However, Fitrian believes that the 20-year old has enormous potential and is the first Indonesian shooter to qualify for the Olympics.
“Fika has a massive potential to achieve more in Paris (2024 Olympics). That’s why she needs more experience so she can achieve bigger things in 2024,” Firtian concluded.
