Greysia/Apriyani ready for quarterfinals challenger

Indonesian Olympic News Update   26 Jul 2021

Tokyo, 26/7/2021 – Indonesia will send another representative to the knockout stage in badminton after women's doubles pair Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu won their second game in the group stage on Monday (26/7).

Greysia/Apriyani defeated Great Britain's pair of Chloe Birch/Lauren Smith in straight sets, winning 21-11 and 21-13 in 42 minutes. In five meetings between the two pairs, Greysia/Apriyani always came out on top.

Greysia said mental preparation is the key to a good performance on the field.

"Our mindset every day is to perform as well as we want and think. Of course, we always want to win. But before we can win, we need to prepare; there's a process to winning. That's it, we don't think about anything else," said the three-time Olympian.

In the next game on Tuesday (27/7), Greysia/Apriyani will face world number one and Japan's Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota. In 10 meetings between the two, the Indonesian pairs had not had a win in the past eight meetings.

This match will determine who will finish first and second in the group, affecting where each pair will land in the bracket. That said, Greysia doesn't pay attention to who they will face in the next stage.

"We will go with our normal routines and preparation, with our strategy. We focus on ourselves. Whoever we face in the quarterfinals doesn't make a difference. We will do our best to get the first seed," concludes Greysia.
