Indonesia will host the 2022 Sport Climbing World Cup event, the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) announced on Thursday (7/10).
During the General Assembly held in Salt Lake City, Utah, the IFSC released a full schedule for next year's World Cup, consisting of 13 series.
The first series will take place in Moscow, Russia, for boulder and speed events on April 1-3. Indonesia will host the 12th series for the lead and speed events in Bali on September 22-24.
According to the IFSC President, Marco Scolaris, the 2022 event calendar symbolizes hope after a "non-stop, challenging 2021".
"The calendar of the 2022 season is not just a mere list of dates, locations, and competitions. It is a symbol of hope, and we are very much looking forward to bringing the Sport Climbing world united again, with no exceptions," said Scolaris.
Indonesia was due to host a Sport Climbing World Cup series this month, but it was called off due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Two Indonesia Sport Climbers, Veddriq Leonardo, and Kiromal Katibin stole the show in this year's Sport Climbing World Cup. The duo broke a four-year world record in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, in the speed event.
