NOC Indonesia News Update 20 Nov 2021
Women in Sport Commission of the Olympic Committee of Indonesia is keen to increase women's participation in national sports, as Head of Commission Susan Soebakti said during Friday's online talk show.
"We want to increase women's participation in sports in our country as it parallels with the Olympic Values and Olympism. I've seen good enthusiasm from women, and we need to improve it. Women can participate not only as athletes but also in administration and management as well," she said.
She added that besides webinars, talk shows, and online classes, the Commission would organize focus group discussions to assess women's problems and obstacles in sports.
Olympian weightlifter Nurul Akmal said she appreciated the initiative from the Commission as nowadays more women are eager to take any roles in sports.
"Gender-wise, there were fewer women who wanted to participate in sports in the past. But, it has changed as more women are eager to participate in sports. So, I appreciate the Commission's initiative to increase women's role in sports," Nurul said.
After the talk show, the Commission organized an online Zumba class, with Zumba's pioneer in Indonesia Junko Agus as the instructor.
Next week, the event will continue with a talk show with Olympian swimmer Azzahra Permatahani, followed by an online yoga class with Margo. The event is supported by Perusahaan Gas Negara.
