NOC Indonesia News Update 01 Jul 2021
As the government imposes emergency lockdown in Jawa and Bali on July 3-20, the Indonesian Olympic Committee pledges its commitment to support the national training camp for Tokyo 2020 Games.
Secretary-General Ferry J. Kono said the committee would send an official letter to the government asking for training permission for athletes preparing for Tokyo Games.
"Currently, the main concern is the crowd. Youth and Sports Minister has said that athletes in the national training camp can continue their preparation as there are only several athletes. I think the national training camp should get an exception for Tokyo Games preparation. If they stop training, they will lose their [physical] condition," Ferry said on Thursday.
Currently, five sports have been training in the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex. They are archery, athletics, swimming, shooting, and weightlifting. Badminton has its training camp in Cipayung, East Jakarta, while weightlifting also has camp in Kwini, Central Jakarta. The rowing team is training in Pangalengan, West Jawa, while the surfing team settles its base in Bali.
The Indonesian Olympic Committee has also arranged an inauguration ceremony during the emergency lockdown and has discussed with the sports ministry.
The committee plans to hold the ceremony on Tuesday as the badminton team will depart for Japan to hold short training camp in Kumamoto.
