NOC Indonesia News Update 11 Feb 2021
The Indonesian Olympic Committee signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Qatar Olympic Committee on Wednesday to boost cooperation in sports between two NOCs.
The MoU was signed by the Indonesian Olympic Committee President Raja Sapta Oktohari and HE First Vice President of the QOC Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani.
It will cover the exchange of technical and administrative expertise between sports federations and NOCs between two countries.
Moreover, Okto said that the cooperation would be the stepping stone to bigger things for both countries.
"The MoU covers the cooperation to improve athletes' performance for both countries, exchange of sports knowledge as well as other supporting infrastructure. We think it will be a start to improve the performance of both countries in many things," Okto said.
He added that the delegation earned many references in organizing sports competitions during the pandemic as Qatar has hosted many sports events, including the 2020 Amir Cup and currently the FIFA Club World Club.
"We saw how Qatar has applied the health protocols in its sporting events, including the FIFA Club World Cup, and it will be our references to organize sporting events in Indonesia. We also received the Tokyo 2020 Playbook from the IOC," told Okto.
"We need to use the momentum to organize sporting events, in particular Olympic qualification, in Indonesia to add more quota for our athletes as many qualification events were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We need to adapt quickly and use the momentum to revive Indonesian sports."
