Talk Show with Sports Administrators Concludes Get Healthy with WINS Program

NOC Indonesia News Update   18 Dec 2021

The Women in Sport Commission concluded the Get Healthy with WINS program with a talk show with veteran sports administrators and an online aerobic class on Friday.

Head of Commission Susan Soebakti and the Badminton Association of Indonesia's official Mimi Irawan became the main speaker and guest speaker in the talk show. They shared their experience as a sports administrator.

Mimi, a Sports for All Commission member, is the mastermind behind the Indonesia Badminton Festival, consisting of Indonesian Masters, Indonesian Open, and BWF World Tour Finals, in Bali on Nov. 16 - Dec. 5, 2021. She started playing badminton as a hobby. Then played at a club level until was elected to head PBSI East Jakarta region.

"I learned to play badminton by myself. From there, I also taught myself about event regulations. It's not because I wanted to be an event organizer. But, when I became a sports administrator, I must know the rules and regulations," Mimi said during the talk show.

Susan also started her sports career as a tennis athlete. She played with Indonesia's tennis greats during her junior year, like Lita Sugiarto, Lany Kaligis, and Yolanda Soemarno. After hanging her racket, Susan was elected to head the Indonesian Lawn Tennis Association (Pelti) Balikpapan region. Then, she has joined Pelti head office for around 20 years.

Susan said she hoped more women took inspiration from the talk show and were eager to join sports as administrators or officials.

"We're very proud with Bu Mimi had done in the Indonesia Badminton Festival. In line with our mission, the Women in Sport Commission invites women to develop national sports. We hope the story from Bu Mimi can inspire them," she said.

Friday's talk show and online aerobic class concluded the Get Healthy with WINS program, and Susan said it would be the beginning for the following programs.

"We're very grateful as we can organize the program. I would like to thank our sponsors, Perusahaan Gas Negara, Milk Life, and Cedea. I also want to thank the Committee's President, Secretary-General, and all staff. Though it's the final event, it will be the beginning of our program next year. I hope we can collaborate with other stakeholders in the next event," Susan concluded.
