Men's Archers shift focus to individual event

Indonesian Olympic News Update   26 Jul 2021

Tokyo, 26/7/2021 – Indonesia fell at the first hurdle in the archery men's team event after losing to Great Britain 6-0 in the 1/8 Eliminations round held in Yumenoshima Final Field, Monday (26/7).

The trio of Riau Ega Agatha, Arif Dwi Pangestu, and Bagas Prastyadi scored 51, 52, and 51 points, while Team GB's Tom Hall, Patrick Huston, and James Woodgate scored 55, 53, and 55 points.

Permadi Sandra, coach of Indonesia's archery team, admits that his team could not overcome the strong wind in Yumenoshima.

"We did our best, but we come up short. This kind of wind is rare in Jakarta. Today, we got information from the coach of the rowing team that the wind is stronger than yesterday, similar to a small storm. This is why the team struggled," said Permadi after the match.

Ega also admits that the team did not adapt quickly to the wind and could not make up ground to Team GB.

"We did not adapt quickly enough. So we fell behind. They got ten quick points. They played better, so it was hard to catch up with them," said Ega.

The team will evaluate this result in preparation for the individual event, which starts tomorrow (27/7) with Arif taking on German archer Florian Unruh. Bagas, Ega, and Diananda Choirunisa still have two days to practice and find solutions to the wind situation for their next match on Thursday (29/7).

"I will be in the bottom half of the pool and play in the afternoon. So, I will practice in the afternoon. I will try to be more consistent. The key is to focus and shoot better," said the two-time Olympian.
